June 21st is World Giraffe Day! Giraffes are amazing animals, and today we’re bringing you a printable Giraffe Activity Set that you can use to teach your elementary (or KG/preschool) aged student/s about these remarkable animals with some fun facts about giraffes and the downloadable activity pages.

10 Fun Facts about Giraffes
Tallest Land Animals: Giraffes are the tallest animals on land. They can grow up to 18 feet tall – that’s as tall as three adults stacked on top of each other!
Long Necks: Giraffes have super long necks that can be up to 6 feet long. That’s about as long as an average adult human is tall!
Unique Patterns: Every giraffe has a unique pattern of spots on its body, just like how humans have unique fingerprints.
Blue Tongues: Giraffes have long, blue tongues that can be up to 20 inches long. They use their tongues to grab leaves from tall trees.
Sleeping Standing Up: Giraffes usually sleep standing up. They take short naps that last only a few minutes at a time.
Running Speed: Giraffes can run really fast, up to 35 miles per hour, which is almost as fast as a car on a city street!
Big Hearts: Giraffes have huge hearts to pump blood all the way up their long necks to their brains. Their hearts can weigh as much as 25 pounds – that’s about as heavy as a small dog!
Silent Communicators: Giraffes communicate with each other using sounds that humans can’t hear. They can also use body language and even make some noises like grunts and hisses.
Eating a Lot: Giraffes spend most of their day eating. They can eat up to 75 pounds of leaves and twigs every day!
Baby Giraffes: Baby giraffes, called calves, are born about 6 feet tall – that’s taller than most adults! They can stand and even run just a few hours after being born.
