Make an Adorable Clay Rudolph for Christmas
Here’s a fun craft idea, with step-by-step instructions: a clay Rudolph reindeer for the Christmas season! At the end, you’ll find some suggestions for other seasonal crafts and art projects to do with your homeschool class in December.

- Air dry clay or foam clay
- Clay crafting tools
- Clay rolling board/ acrylic board
- Clay rolling pin
Instructions for The Clay Rudolph
Step 1
Take some light brown clay and roll it into a sphere.
Step 2
Roll from two sides to make a cylindrical shape. Then press one side against a hard surface. Poke a hole in the bottom of the structure using a ball pin tool. This will help it to stand firmly on its own.
Step 3
Now, take two chunks of the same shade of light brown clay. We will use these to make the legs for our clay Rudolph.
Step 4
Shape each into oval shapes.
Step 5
Place them on both sides of the body.
Step 6
Take some more clay, and make two elongated tear-drop shapes with it.
Step 7
Flatten the wider part of it with your fingers.
Step 8
Attach each of the forepaws on the body.
Step 9
Next, we will be making the head. Take some light beige or white clay for the head and some brown clay for the details of the face.
Step 10
Make a cylindrical shape with the brown clay and flatten it. Then gently pinch a tiny part in the middle and smoothen the edges.
Step 11
Place it on the head by wrapping it around. Make sure that the pointy part is in the middle of the face.
Step 12
Now we will make the ears. Take two smaller chunks of brown clay.
Step 13
Form two tear-drop shapes and then flatten them.
Step 14
Pinch the wider part together which should look like the one in the picture. Do the same with the other ear.
Step 15
Place them on the head.
Step 16
Form some dark brown clay into two flat triangular shapes.
Step 17
Gently make an indention using your thumb and index finger on one side of the triangle. Make sure the adjacent corners are pointy. This is the horn of the clay Rudolph.
Step 18
Place the horns on the head.
Step 19
Make a tiny ball using red clay and place it on the face as the nose.
Step 20
Attach the head to the body.
Step 21
Take some red clay and make a rope shape.
Step 22
Flatten it by pressing it against a smooth and even surface.
Step 23
Time to place the muffler on the clay Rudolph. First, place one end diagonally along the body.

Then wrap it around the neck.
Step 25
Add the final details on the face and you are done!
