Christmas Gnome Puppets

Sharing is caring!

This Christmas gnome puppet craft is one of those easy, low-pressure activities that works well for a quiet afternoon, a classroom craft table, or a cozy homeschool lesson break. There is something about Christmas crafts that naturally slows things down in the best way. When the calendar is full and the days feel busy, sitting down with paper, scissors, and glue can feel like a small reset for everyone.

These cheerful little Christmas gnomes come together with just a few basic supplies and plenty of room for creativity. Kids can mix and match colors, decorate the hats however they like, and end up with a finished puppet they can actually play with when they are done. It is simple enough for younger children, flexible for older kids, and festive without being complicated—exactly the kind of Christmas craft that feels doable during a busy season.

List of Supplies for Christmas Gnomes:

  1. Colored craft paper
  2. Popsicle sticks
  3. Craft glue
  4. Pencil
  5. Scissors

Instructions for Christmas Gnomes:

Step 1:

Select 4 different colored craft papers for the gnome puppet craft. Trace the provided template patterns (hat, nose, body, beard and shoes) on the selected craft paper and cut them out nicely. Cut out a small (smaller than the nose) piece of cardstock paper as well.

Step 2:

Grab the body pattern and stick the 2 shoe cutouts along the bottom side (the curved side) of the body cutout. Keep the shoe patterns on the backside.

Step 3:

Grab the hat cutout and decorate the hat in whatever way you want. You can either use paper cutouts (circles, stripes or any shape you like) or you can use Sharpies to draw patterns on the paper hat.

Step 4:

Grab the nose cutout and the small cardstock piece. Stick the cardstock piece on either side of the nose, right in the middle of it.

Step 5:

Stick the beard pattern near the top side of the body pattern, keeping the zigzag side facing down.

Step 6:

Now stick the hat pattern on the top side of the beard pattern by overlapping a cm of both patterns (beard and hat).

Step 7:

Now nicely stick the nose on the beard, right below the hat’s bottom end. While sticking the nose, make sure to keep the cardstock piece on the backside.

Step 8:

Attach the papercraft gnome on a popsicle stick to complete the puppet craft.
