R is for River

This week the TOS Homeschool Review Crew is Blog Cruising on the topic of “Beating the Summer Heat”…. Here in Wiesbaden we haven’t had much of a need to keep cool. Most days, the breeze is blowing, and the rain is pouring down in the afternoons. Yesterday was one of the few sunny, clear days, and we took full advantage of it.

Every summer, the villages and castles along the Rhine River get together for something they call “Rhine in flammen”. They light up the castles, and set off fireworks, one town after the next. We were lucky enough to get a seat on one of the dinner cruises, left the kids with a sitter overnight, and headed off on a rare date.

From Wiesbaden, we set off down the river to right past Rudesheim and waited for the show to start. For the next two hours, it was nothing but fireworks show after show. Words can’t even describe how gorgeous it was, or how in awe I was of this amazing opportunity we have to live in this beautiful country.

We may not have much of a reason to need to keep cool, but let me tell you, sitting on the boat under the stars, watching fireworks was the BEST way to spend a summer night here in Germany.
