This super simple 3D pirate ship craft is perfect to make with your kiddos if you plan to celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day this month! (Or even if you don’t … or if it’s not September!) You can follow the instructions or use them as a guide and create your own customized pirate. It’s up to you and your kids!

Supplies for Pirate Ship Craft:

How to Make the Pirate Ship Craft:

Step 1

Select a colored cardstock paper for the ship, mast base and anchor patterns. Select colored craft papers for the sails, flag, windows, ship border and mast patterns. Trace the ship template patterns on the selected cardstock papers and cut them out nicely.

Step 2

Fold and make creases along the yellow-marked lines of the backside and the side patterns of the ship. Use scissors to cut slits along the thin folded parts of the side patterns; keep 1 or 2 cm gap between the slits. Apply glue along the thin folded parts of the backside and side patterns of the boat.

Step 3

Grab the base pattern of the ship and any one of the side patterns. Attach the glued part (tabs) of the side pattern along the side of the ship’s base pattern.

Step 4

Similarly, attach the other side of the boat.

Step 5

Join the 2 side patterns of the ship together along their front side. Attach the backside of the ship by gluing the bottom tab with the ship’s base and the side tabs with the side patterns of the ship.

Step 6

Prepare the mast base by folding along the yellow lines and punching a hole in the middle. Apply glue along the 2 side folds, bend the base into an arch shape and attach the glued sides on the center of the ship’s inner bottom surface.

Step 7

Attach the window cutouts on the backside of the side patterns, attach the anchor to the front and attach a border (optional) along the bottom sides of the side patterns.

Step 8

Take the mast base strip and roll into a thin pipe like pattern. Apply glue to secure the pattern. Attach the skull and bone patterns on the flag cutout. Punch holes on the sail cutout on the marked yellow circles.

Step 9

Attach the sails with the mast pipe by inserting the holes through the pie. Attach the flag on the top side of the mast. Insert the bottom side of the mast pipe through the hole of the mast base to complete the craft.
