Instructions for the Llama Weaving Craft
Step 1:
This craft requires a cardboard sheet to prepare the weaving base (llama pattern). Trace the llama outline from the provided template and cut it out nicely.
Step 2:
Select a bundle of yarn. (We’re using white yarn.) Wrap the yarn around the llama’s body and tie a knot using the open end of the yarn and the closed end. Keep the knotted part on the backside of the llama cardboard base.
Step 3:
Neatly and evenly wrap the yarn around the body part of the llama cardboard base. Keep small gaps between each wrap; otherwise, you won’t be able to weave easily.
Step 4:
Try to cover the body part with yarn wrapping (warp). Once you’re done preparing the warp, draw the yarn to the backside of the llama base, use clear tape to secure that end and cut the yarn from bundle. Prepare a different colored yarn with a tapestry needle.
Step 5:
Secure the open end of the new yarn strand on the backside of the base and then draw the needle (along with the yarn) to the front side of the llama base.
Step 6:
Simply weave over and under the warp strands.
Step 7:
After reaching the other end of the warp, draw the needle to the next row. For the first row, weave over the odd strands and under the even strands; for the next row, weave over the even strands and under the odd strands. This is called plain weaving.
Step 8:
Continue the plain weaving technique. When you’re done with the yarn, you can draw it to the backside of the llama base and secure it with clear tape or by knotting with the wrapped yarn strands. Add a different colored yarn and weave again.
Step 9:
Add as many colored yarns as you like to fill the warp strands with the plain weaving pattern.
Step 10:
Done with your llama weaving craft? Draw the remaining yarn to the backside and tie a knot to secure it.
Step 11:
Use sharpies to add a border, eye, nose and mouth of the cardboard llama pattern. Glue some pompoms along the bottom side of the woven part.
