Instructions for the Felt Fox Plushie
Step 1
Print out and cut out the template patterns. Trace the base, head, lower body, and 2 tail patterns on orange or brown felt; trace the belly, tail tip, inner ear patterns and the face on white or cream felt, the nose on black felt, and blush on pink felt. Cut out the traced patterns.
Step 2
Stitch the inner ear cutouts in the middle of the ear parts of the head cutout.
Step 3
Stitch the belly cutout on the bottom side of the lower body cutout.
Step 4
Stitch the face cutout on the bottom side of the head pattern.
Step 5
Use black thread to stitch the eyes on the face part and stitch the nose cutout on the upper-middle part of the face pattern. Stitch the blush cutouts on both (lower) sides of the face part.
Step 6
Stitch the tail tip on any one of the tail cutouts and then attach both tail patterns together around the sides.
Step 7
Place the lower body on the bottom side of the base cutout and stitch the bottom sides of both pieces together.
Step 8
Insert a cm of the bottom side of the tail on either side of the base and lower body. Stitch that side of the pattern to join the base, lower body, and tail together. Place the head on the top part of the base.
Step 9
Stitch around the side of the head to attach it to the base and lower body. Keep a small opening on a side of the lower body while stitching it. Stuff the felt fox with scrap felt or cotton through that small opening.
Step 10
Close the opening to secure the stuffing. Cut out a small strip of felt and tie it around the neck of the felt fox plushie. Attach a small ribbon loop on the backside of the felt fox to use it as an ornament.
More about Foxes!
Here are some fun facts about foxes, followed by a few related crafts:
Sly and Smart: Foxes are known for being clever. They can solve problems and use their wits to find food. In fact, they have even been observed using tools, like using sticks to help get to hard-to-reach food.
Amazing Ears: Foxes have big, pointy ears that help them hear very well. They can hear a mouse squeak from up to 100 feet away! Their ears also help keep them cool.
Bushy Tails: Foxes have big, bushy tails that are called “brushes.” They use their tails for balance when running fast and to keep warm in cold weather. Sometimes they even use their tails as a blanket when they sleep.
Different Colors: Foxes come in many colors, from the classic red to gray, black, and even white. The Arctic fox, for example, has a coat that turns white in the winter to blend in with the snow.
Varied Diet: Foxes are omnivores, which means they eat a variety of foods. Their diet includes fruits, insects, small animals, and even leftovers from other animals. They can adapt to eat whatever is available in their habitat.
Fantastic Jumpers: Foxes are great jumpers! They can leap up to 15 feet in a single bound. This helps them catch prey and navigate their environment.
Family Life: Foxes usually live in family groups called “skulks” or “leashes.” The parents take care of the young foxes, called kits, and teach them how to hunt and survive.
Unique Calls: Foxes make a variety of sounds, including barks, screams, and howls. Their calls can be heard from quite a distance and are used to communicate with each other.
Sneaky Sleepers: Foxes are crepuscular, meaning they are most active during dawn and dusk. They often take naps during the day and night.
Paws for Play: Foxes love to play and are very agile. They often engage in playful activities like running, jumping, and pouncing, which helps them stay fit and sharp.
