Instructions for Monkey Craft:
Step 1:
Select cream, brown, and pink craft paper for the bookmark monkey craft. Trace the body base, tail, and hands onto brown craft paper. Then trace the inner ear parts on pink craft paper. Finally, trace the rest of the patterns (hands, feet, ears, face, and belly) on cream craft paper.
Cut out the traced patterns. If your child is old enough or is adept in cutting, he can do this part of the activity. Otherwise, you might want to do the cutting part and let your child focus on the steps of gluing/pasting.
Step 2:
Now, you’ll want to glue the face cut-out to the middle of the head part attached to the body base.
Step 3:
Next, glue the feet cut-outs onto the underside of the leg parts attached to the body base.
Step 4:
Glue the belly cut-out to the middle of the belly part of the monkey body base. Attach the tail pattern on the under-side of either side of the base.
Step 5:
Glue the inner ear parts in the middle of the main ear patterns. Then, attach the hand cut-outs to the arm patterns.
Step 6:
Attach the ear patterns on the two sides of the head, along the top end.
Step 7:
Glue only the top end of the paper arm patterns on both sides of the paper monkey body base. These little arms will be the bookmark, allowing the monkey craft to “hang on” to the story your child is reading.
Step 8:
Glue the other arm. Finally, use a permanent marker to draw the eyes, nose, and mouth of the paper monkey. You might want to do the drawing part yourself, or if your child wants to try out drawing a monkey face, you can let her do this part of the activity.
