A review of Startwrite – The Handwriting Worksheet Wizard

Have you ever wanted to make your own handwriting worksheets?

I have been writing my own copywork for the kids on lined paper for as long as I can remember. We use copywork as a way to learn how to write, proper sentence structure, proper letter formation, and spelling, so we do it a lot.

I am really excited to have been given the StartWrite software for a review because I now have an easy-to-use program to help me make my own professional-looking worksheets (instead of my kids having to copy my admittedly imperfect handwriting!).

What I love about Startwrite

My favorite thing about StartWrite is that there are so many options for how you set up your worksheet- it really is “The Handwriting Worksheet Wizard”- I was able to make pages that were exactly what I wanted in no time at all.

When you open the program, you get a blank page, so you really get lots of wiggle room to make it fit your needs. You can insert pictures, change the page orientation, add graphics and borders, and determine what guidelines you want to use.

When you go to enter your text, you have a ton of different fonts to choose from. All the basic handwriting fonts are there, everything from italic to ball and stick, handwriting without tears type fonts, and cursive.

You can choose to have your words show in many different ways as well. There are dotted guides, you can have letter outlines (so your child writes the letter inside the “bubble letter”), there are starting dots, stroke guides, or even color coding for strokes.

I’ve had a wonderful time making worksheets for all my children. Because I can adapt them so much, I was able to make large tracing letters for Little Miss, standard copy work for Mr. Man, and extra Latin practice for Bug in cursive.

With StartWrite, I can use any text I want, so I am able to make worksheets with important quotes, material from our lessons, knock-knock jokes- anything I want.

This program is going to save me tons of time and money in the years to come since I no longer have to write my own copywork, or pay for copybooks! I think it’s a great tool for all homeschoolers to have in their box of supplies.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
