Got a space enthusiast at home? If your child loves studying stars, planets and/or space exploration, today’s craft would make a perfect fun and simple afternoon activity! When you’ve completed your craft, you’ll have an adorable rocket bookmark to use as you read your favorite books about space together.

Supplies:

You probably have everything you need already to make this craft at home! You’ll need:

  • Colored craft papers
  • Cardstock paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Template with rocket shapes (grab the PDF with the link at the bottom of this article)

How to Make It:

First, select colored craft papers for the rocket pattern. (Bright, contrasting colors make a really fun and vibrant final result!)  Next, prepare the template patterns by printing and cutting them out (use the link below to grab the PDF template from our online store).

Trace the patterns on the craft paper that you selected and then cut them out using scissors.

Below, you’ll see that the template includes: the main part of the rocket (bullet shaped), 2 side wings, window (2 round shapes), triangular shape (the top end of the rocket), 2 flame patterns, and bottom part of the rocket (trapezoid shaped).

Once the pieces are cut out, you can start assembling. Grab the main part  of your rocket (bullet shaped) and the trapezoid shaped piece. Use the glue to stick the trapezoid shaped paper onto the straight edge of bullet-shaped piece of paper.

Stick the triangular piece of paper onto the top of your rocket to form the nose.  Next, get the 2 round pieces of paper and stick the smaller circle onto the bigger circle. Glue the circular piece you just made into the middle of the your rocket’s body to make a window.

Then you’ll take the side wings of the rocket and stick them onto each side of the rocket with the pointy ends facing outwards.

Now take the 2 flame cutouts and stick the smaller flame pattern on the middle of the big flame cutout.

Stick the flame pattern underneath the trapezoid.

Lastly, glue the paper rocket onto a strip of cardstock. Allow it to dry completely before using your bookmark! If you want to create an extra durable bookmark, you can also laminate it! We hope you enjoy making this fun and easy space-themed craft at home. May it lead you on all sorts of literary missions to places near and far.  Don’t forget to grab the printable template using the link below!
