St. Patrick’s Day Traditions Around the World

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up on Tuesday, March 17! Whether you love to celebrate your Irish heritage on this day, or just enjoy the culture of Ireland, there are plenty of ways to have some fun (and learn, too) on St. Patrick’s Day.  And because of the kid-friendly lore and traditions of the holiday (Leprechauns, rainbows, gold, etc), you may find that your students are eager to integrate St. Patrick’s Day related activities into their studies!

I think it’s always interesting to study how different parts of the world celebrate various holidays, but it might surprise you (as it did me) that different countries all around the world actually celebrate Ireland’s public holiday of St. Patrick’s Day.

This is actually pretty amazing, when you think about it! I mean, other countries around the world don’t typically celebrate purely American holidays (like Thanksgiving or the 4th of July), so it’s noteworthy that you can find different ways of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in different countries all around the world. Though this country may be small, it is proud and clearly influential throughout the world!

Today, we’re bringing you a fun, printable booklet that you can use to learn about the ways that different cultures all over the world celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.  This printable contains 3 pages, each with several “mini pages” containing details about how other cultures celebrate St. Paddy’s Day.

After you learn about all of the different traditions, you have the chance to reflect on your favorite ones. You may even want to use these ideas to plan your own St. Patrick’s Day party!  You may also want to include a little bit of history about the origin/meaning behind the holiday by reading this children’s book about St. Patrick.
